A keen surfer with a love of beach life, our astute builder-client immediately saw the potential in this site, which is a high sandy knoll in New Brighton, Christchurch.

The brief:
To maximise the beach connection, views and privacy.

The outcome:
‍Positioned on a busy corner section, we designed a ground level main entrance with two living levels above and a spectacular roof deck that embraces the sensational 360 degree views.

The ground floor contains the bedrooms and focuses on the private landscaped area contained between the two wings of the home. The upper level has two living spaces centred around the entrance void and a large north facing deck for outdoor living and views.

The building height is taken from the existing ground level which allowed us to maximise the elevation and beach views.
The home is a mix of plaster and board & batten, reflecting the commonly used materials of the area but it’s been given a very contemporary bach feel.
