Challenging the norm - done properly
Our client wanted to push the boundaries in Rolleston, where multi-units are rarely seen.
The original brief was for single level, three bedroom, stand-alone houses on the site. After much discussion and review of the potential outcomes through our Feasibility Study process, our client agreed that two storey was the best option as this provides greater flexibility, privacy and quality in the development.
We created a single module unit which could be orientated to suit the site and then provided options for how the access and garage connected to the townhouses.
The result is a balanced development, with each home having its own individual nature and relationship to the site. Sunlight and privacy have been maintained throughout.
Selwyn District Council is now using this layout as an exemplar design for developers to follow.
Currently in construction by Russell Lilly Construction (https://www.rlgroup.co.nz/), it is anticipated that these will be completed late in 2024.
